The Rainbow Relaxation CD is a conditioning tool that is central to the HypnoBirthing program. Regular use, ideally daily or at least several times per week, conditions your body to go deeply into relaxation whenever you hear it. During birthing, when you play this CD, it will help you go quickly into deep relaxation.
In class, someone always mentions that they fall asleep while listening to the Rainbow Relaxation CD and they wonder if that matters. Falling asleep while listening to the CD is just fine. Your unconscious mind is still listening and taking in all the positive relaxation suggestions.
In fact, while doing a comfort management exercise in class where we practice creating numbness in one hand and then transferring that numbness to other parts of the body, one birth companion fell asleep. He was surprised when he “woke up” (he actually just moved out of sleep back into the hypnotic state) and noticed that his hand was numb. He continued with the exercise, now consciously hearing the suggestions again. After the exercise, he shared his experience with the class.
Because people tend to fall asleep while listening to this CD, listening to it before going to bed works well for many moms. You get all of the positive suggestions and the relaxation helps you get a good night’s sleep. Remember, hypnosis scripts should never be listened to in a car or when you are doing anything that requires your full attention.
