Perineal Massage

I know perineal massage isn’t at the top of anyone’s list of things to do.  And I wish I could say that it’s a pleasurable, foreplayish thing to do, but truly it’s not.  If you’re doing it right, you should be putting pressure on the perineal area that is significant enough to stretch this area over time.  Don’t do it so hard that it hurts, but make sure you are applying enough pressure so that you feel that pressure is being applied.  Over time the muscles you are massaging should begin to relax, preparing to support you in creating a calm and gentle birthing.

Begin incorporating about five minutes a day of perineal massage into your routine starting 6-8 weeks prior to your baby’s estimated due date.  Instructions about how to do perineal massage are included in your HypnoBirthing book.
